Tour Overview
The Shira Route is one of the most beautiful and quiet routes on Mount Kilimanjaro. It starts on the western side of the mountain and offers wide views, open landscapes, and fewer crowds.
This 8-day itinerary gives more time for your body to adjust to the altitude. Because of this, it has a higher success rate to reach the summit compared to shorter programs.
The trek starts at a high altitude, then continues across the famous Shira Plateau. You will walk through different environments, including moorland, rocky desert, and alpine zones.
The route follows a good acclimatization plan with the “climb high, sleep low” method. This helps reduce altitude sickness and makes the climb safer.
The main highlight is reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. After the summit, you descend through the rainforest to the exit gate.
