Day 1 Morning: Arusha → Momella Gate → Start Hike
Morning: Arusha → Momella Gate → Start Hike
Elevation: 1,400 m → 1,500 m
Driving Time: 1–1.5 hours
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours (uphill)
Early morning pickup from your hotel in Arusha and drive to Momella Gate for registration.
Meet your armed park ranger and begin the hike. The trail starts in open grasslands where you may see giraffes, zebras, and buffalo at a safe distance. As you continue, you enter the forest zone filled with birds, colobus monkeys, and beautiful trees.
You will hike towards Miriakamba Hut or nearby viewpoints, depending on your pace and fitness level.
Midday: Forest Walk & Scenic Views
Elevation: Up to ~2,500 m
Rest Time: 1–2 hours
Enjoy a packed lunch surrounded by nature. Take time to relax, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and capture photos of the forest, waterfalls, and wildlife.
On clear days, you may get distant views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Afternoon: Descent to Momella Gate
Distance: 8–12 km total (round trip)
Hiking Time: 2–3 hours (downhill)
Begin your descent back through the forest and open plains. The return hike is easier and offers more chances to spot wildlife.
Arrive at Momella Gate in the afternoon.
Evening: Return to Arusha
