Tour Overview

This Ngorongoro Crater day trip takes you from Arusha to the crater floor and back in one day. The crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its year-round water and grazing support more than 30,000 animals.

On the floor you can expect herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo and eland, along with hippos, warthogs and elephants. It is also one of the best places in Tanzania to see the critically endangered black rhino. Lions and hyenas are common, while cheetahs, jackals and the shy leopard take more patience. You have a picnic lunch inside the crater, then climb out and drive back to Arusha before sunset.

Break up the drive

It is a long day in the car. If you can stay a night, the 2-day Tarangire and Ngorongoro safari splits the drive. The 3-day Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater safari adds the Serengeti.

    Day 1 Arusha – Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha
    Your journey begins with an early morning pick-up from your Arusha accommodation. Enjoy a scenic drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area before descending 600 meters into the crater. Spend the day exploring the crater floor, spotting wildlife, and enjoying a picnic lunch at a scenic spot. In the late afternoon, ascend the crater and drive back to Arusha, arriving before nightfall.
